Event Alert – Australian HR Awards – 28th Oct 2011

I know, I know, I generally don’t do posts on generic HR stuff but the HR awards are pretty big and they’re run by HC Mag, where I get a fair bit of info for this site, so it seems only fair to do a bit of a plug for their main event.

This year’s HR awards are on Friday 28th of October at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney. The blurb from the website says… Continue reading

Event Alert – HR Summit – Brisbane 5th-6th Oct 2011

If I’m absolutely honest I wouldn’t normally have done an event alert for the HR Summit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great event (indeed, it’s possibly Australia’s largest HR focussed event) with some outstanding speakers, but it’s quite a lot of money to spend if you’re in the L&D/OD world as the topics obviously tend to cover the far broader HR issues, which means you can end up spending a lot of time listening to stuff that’s interesting but not really relevant to your area.

However, I’ve had a look at the agenda for the Brisbane event next month and I have to say that there’s a fair bit in there that I’d be keen to hear, including: Continue reading

Like the last event alert, I’m afraid this is another one for those of you with a very understanding boss and/or board and a decent travel budget (if so, luck you!).

Aiming for the top: Developing High Performers

Identifying and developing high performers is one of the primary ways businesses today can gain competitive advantage. Not only does the business benefit, it also serves to engage and further develop employees. So what are the top companies doing? Edweena Stratton, senior director of HR at Oracle, says her company has implemented fast-track programs for those identified as being key talent. Dean Sappey, HR director – Australia at Frucor, has concentrated on the key drivers for these people, through a range of motivational and psychometric tools. Frucor has also invested heavily on development opportunities for their high performers. Cindy Grass, HR director at Millward Brown, says that high performers not only want to be rewarded appropriately, but also be heard and listened to. Meanwhile, IT best employer McAfee’s HR director, John Francois, comments on the development opportunities available for their high performers – not only in terms of leadership, but also in resolving issues.

Event Alert – DevLearn – Las Vegas – Nov 2nd to 4th

For those of you with a fairly decent budget for attending events (very envious!), the DevLearn conference is in Las Vegas this year on the 2nd to 4th of November. As with all things American it promises to be BIG with some great keynote speakers and, no doubt, some amazing learning and networking opportunities. If anyone is fortunate enough to go along I’d be extremely grateful if they’d do a bit of a report for us (is anyone already booked?).

Event Alert – Learnx Asia-Pac Convention – Brisbane – 14th and 15th Sep

For anyone who’s in Brisbane (or who fancies flying in to Brisbane), the LearnX Asia Pacific Conference is on Wednesday, 14 September 2011 – Thursday, 15 September 2011 at the Brisbane Convention Centre, South Brisbane. The production’s theme is ‘Transformations and innovations in how we learn for work and life’.
I’d love to go but I’ll be in Darwin so it’d be great to hear from anyone that went (one of my workmates is going so I’ll ask her to post on what it was like).
